Farm Fatale new Paul Heiney book in stock

Old Pond now has stock of Paul Heiney's latest book, Farm Fatale, in which he tells the story of his ten years' farming with working horses in Suffolk.

In the early part of the book Paul writes about the experience he acquired working one day a week on the traditional farm run by Roger and Cheryl Clark where horseman 'Gerry' was one of the great characters. The photograph shows Gerry with one of the Clarks' Percherons.

Opencast Images photographs of British Coal Opencast sites new book now in stock

The 'Ace of Spades' and 'Big Geordie' draglines are among the many earthmoving machines photographed by Dave Wootton from 1986 to 1994. He captured them on some 32 surface coal mines in the midlands and north of England and south Wales. Some 230 of these fine shots - including panoramas of the mines - are included in his new book.

Opencast Images: an Informal Look at British Coal Opencast Sites 1986-1994 is now available in hardback from Old Pond at £24.95. Full information about the book is given at the same link.

Coal industry expert and author Keith Haddock, whose latest book, Modern Earthmoving Machines, was published in America by Iconografix earlier this year, has seen a copy of Dave Wootton's book. He has some enthusiastic comments:

Massey Ferguson Farm Implements and Machinery 1970-77 DVD now in stock

In the second of their three DVDs about MF implements and machines, George French and Dennis Burston offer 36 items that you would have seen at work on farms in the period 1970-77. They start with a 40 2-furrow plough coupled to an MF 135 and end with a 515 combine, and there is a wide range of equipment (and tractors) in between. All the filming is new, recorded in 2011 and 2012, and as usual there is a full commentary.

Seventy Years of Farm Tractors by Brian Bell new book in stock

Seventy Years of Farm Tractors, by Brian Bell, is a 304-page hardback book with 350 photographs. It deals with over a hundred marques from Allis to Zetor, the manufacturers and brands of the tractors which were to be found on British farms in the period 1930-2000. Encyclopaedic in scope and detail, it deals in particular with the great days of tractor development 1965-90.

Harry Ferguson inventor & pioneer book back in stock

Colin Fraser's biography, Harry Ferguson inventor & pioneer, is unquestionably the finest book of its kind in the tractor world. Partly this is because Ferguson was such an exciting and complex man whose achievements were enormous. Partly this due to Colin Fraser's expertise in going through the Ferguson archives and drawing out all the features of the man and his dealings. Colin wrote the book in the very early 1970s when memories of Ferguson - who died in 1960 - were very much alive.

Old Pond first reprinted this book in 1998. For our latest reprint we have re-set the text in clearer type, but have very much kept to the look of the original. The sixteen pages of black-and-white photographs are once again included.
